Honesty toward self

Again you tried to forget

to lie to yourself

because it hurts

and the emptiness surrounding this wound is frightening

But this time you couldn’t push the lie as far as you used to

as far as my selfishness could bring me

as far as your fear could carry you

For a moment you thought, you hoped

you could dull yourself so entirely

you didn’t need to confront this wound

but you saw the lie so clearly cut, so dark

you shied away from it

And now you’re glad

glad you didn’t fall again

glad you have become so strong

and from the place where you have stopped

you see the winding road you will have to climb

before reaching the city of your heart
